About the Yorkplace Preschool Nursery centre...
Yorkplace Preschool and Nursery is a small family ordinated centre in the heart of Dunedin. We strive to cater and support the very diverse culture amongst our community.
The teachers at our childcare centre believe learning is life long and it is essential to create a warm and inviting environment, where our tamariki/children feel a sense of belonging and learning is made fun.
The uniqueness of each and every child and their whanau/family is celebrated with stable qualified team of loving and caring teachers.
Being in the heart of the city enables us access to all the city has to offer, including library visits and walks within the community to see what is happening; from Magicians to Santa at Cadbury World.

Meet the early childcare teachers at Yorkplace...
It still gives me so much pleasure leading this wonderful team of teachers. I have been working in Early Childhood for over twenty years; I love being a part of a team that fosters children's individuality and gives them a safe, loving environment to flourish in. I have three children, but only one left at home. In my spare time I enjoy crafts, beaches and spending time with my family.
Ever since I was a little girl playing school with my little brothers, friends and teddies; I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I was a play centre Mum and started my training which provided me with the chance to experience what working with young children is like. I loved it! However once my older children left for school I tried other jobs. Three years ago I had the opportunity to further my training with Te Tari Puna Ora o Aotearoa/ New Zealand Childcare Association and started my journey in gaining my early childhood degree. I will graduate in February with my diploma and gain my four year degree the following year. I love working at York Place as we have a fantastic team who each bring something different; which helps us to cater to all the diverse cultures that attend . And finally there are the awesome children and their families, even though I am a teacher, the children and their whanau have taught me lots too.
Kia ora, I am Marina Burleigh. I gained my bachelor of education in early childhood in 2004 from the Dunedin College of Education. I am a fully registered teacher. I enjoy very much being a part of each child’s learning journey and seeing them grow and develop over time. I enjoy getting to know children’s whanau too. I really like music, imagination, te reo Maori and children’s curiosity and honesty.
